A client once described her custom-designed kitchen as “magical.” And even though crystal balls and wands were not part of that design, we have to agree. Day or night, there’s just something about the kitchen that just draws people in and makes it the place where everyone wants to be.
And it’s not just because that’s where all the food is at (though that probably does have something to do with it!). Kitchens are truly the heart of the home. They are a gathering place for family and friends, a place to create and enjoy delicious food, and a place to connect with the ones who are dearest to you.
At KRM Custom Homes, our goal is to make every kitchen we build magical! Here are three trends we’re seeing that will instantly elevate everyone’s favorite room.
Kitchen Design Trends from Our Team
Colorful Cabinets
Cabinets have a come a long way since the basic stained wood found in many older homes. Don’t get us wrong—we still love a gorgeous solid oak cabinet. But if you’re feeling more adventurous, try bringing a pop of color to your cabinets. White cabinets are still having a moment, but we’re loving the twist of mixing in some wood accents to warm things up. You can also mix and match cabinet colors—think white on top and a darker, rich color on the bottom cabinets. If navy blue cabinets feel too risky to you, consider going with white cabinets and adding the punch of color in an island.
Go Bold on Top
Updating your countertops is an amazing way to give your kitchen a completely different look and feel. There are so many amazing options—from basic black and white to colors and metallics. If you take the plain route on cabinets, try adding a bold countertop to spice things up. If you opted to take the plunge on colorful cabinets, a simple, subtle countertop will be the perfect balance. We’re still seeing a ton of Carrara marble countertops out there, and that’s not surprising. Carrara’s classic mix of white and grey is timeless and will go with just about any cabinet combo you can dream up.
Pantry Perfection
One of our favorite trends right now is super-sized pantries. No matter how big your kitchen is, you probably feel like you could use more space! We love our gadgets, and those Instant Pots® and Vitamix® blenders have to go somewhere. Pantries are also an amazing way to organize and store dry goods like spices, cereal, and snacks. Custom pantries are a big space saver, because you can set the height of shelves to match your appliances and gadgets (hooray for no more half-full shelves!).
The best part about starting your home design in the kitchen is that you can carry the theme into the rest of your house. If you opt for white and wood in the kitchen, think creatively about how you can carry that theme forward into the family room, bedrooms, and bathrooms. The heart of the home can inspire your entire living space and working to bring your kitchen theme into other parts of the house will make everything feel more cohesive and put together.
