The Journey to Building a Custom Home in Iowa

The custom home builders of KRM are dedicated to building a home that reflects your needs, wants, and personality. Our building experience begins with an initial meeting to discuss your home goals. Together, we review or create your customized home plan and note any additional features that interest you. Doing so ensures that we completely understand your expectations.

We’ll move into the financing stage, and send your plan to vendors for a bid after obtaining your pre-approval. The home plan, modifications, and additional features combine into a proposal detailing the scope of work. This proposal will include allowances for different timeframes and the total investment cost of your home.

We will have regular follow-up meetings to ensure your satisfaction throughout this process. Once you are completely happy, you will sign off on your personalized floor plan. Then you will make selections for your interior and exterior customizations. We use the BuilderTrend app for this step, which helps simplify the process for everyone.

Our next step is to complete the pre-dig checklist. This entails finalizing all permits and selections, the site plan, and all builder forms. You pay a builder deposit, and we will establish the dig date.

Then comes the exciting part—the building process! After we frame the house, we walk through it to verify its light switch, outlet, and lighting locations. We also complete a trim walk to ensure every trim piece matches your approved designs. This essential part of our process ensures that even the tiniest details of your home are as precise as you imagined. Once everything is in place, we will complete a full-home quality check.

After your home is up to our standards, we will walk the house with you, the superintendent, and the warranty manager. We’ll show you all the features of your new home. Consider this walkthrough a homeowner orientation catered just to you.

You’ll receive a Certificate of Occupancy and the keys to your new home on the closing date!  We cover our homes with a one-year warranty, and you may submit any claims through the BuilderTrend app.
